Platja de Sant Sebastià Passeig Marítim de la Barceloneta 2, 08003 Barcelona
Cinema Lliure a la Platja
Cinema Lliure a la Platja is back for another season of avant garde film under the stars. Escape the sticky city center and lay back on the beach to enjoy some al fresco cinema. Film aficionados can enjoy a selection of alternative and avant-garde films not available at conventional cinemas whilst relaxing next to the sea—all for free!
Thirteen years ago Cinema Lliure a la Platja started screening independent films at Barcelona's Platga de Sant Sebastià; over the course of a decade it has expanded to several other beaches along the coast with film screenings this year in Barcelona, Sitges, Tarragona, Salou, Palamós, Tossa de Mar, Palma and Pollença. The festival screens movies that have appeared at film festivals here and abroad throughout the year. Before each feature film, a short film selected by FILMETS Badalona Film Festival will be shown. Films are usually screened in original language with Spanish subtitles.
This year's agenda includes Creatura by Elena Martín Gimeno, (Spain, 2023), Past Lives by Celine Song (USA, 2023), Robot Dreams by Pablo Berger (Spain, France, 2023) and 20.000 especies de abejas, Estibaliz Urresola (Spain, 2023).
Keep in mind that food and chairs will not be provided, so make sure to pack something tasty and a blanket for a lovely beach picnic under the stars. You are encouraged to arrive early for a good seat closest to the screen!
Timing
Screenings will begin at sunset sometime between 21:30 and 22:00, which will vary depending on the date. You should plan to arrive early and enjoy the music session as you settle into your place. The 2024 program is in the works and will soon be announced.
